Thank you guests!
I would like to say thank you to ALL the guests who had written such wonderful reviews on www.Tripadvisor.com and emailing guest surveys to us and mentioning Boomer McFall! Thanks to all of the guests that took time to mention me, I was voted Guest Choice Employee of 2012. I truly enjoy seeing returning guests to our resort and having the pleasure of hosting all of the fun activities offered at The Southernmost Hotel Collection. I am thrilled to inform you of two excellent new employees that have recently joined my Activities Team and activities are even more spectacular at our resort with the addition of Mark Patterson and Michael McCabe!
Mark Patterson – has lived in Key West for almost 10 years, but is originally from the Buffalo, NY area. After receiving an Associate’s degree in Travel and Tourism, he went on to Cosmetology School to pursue another dream of being the hairdresser to the stars. After realizing that wasn’t his passion, he wandered between retail and restaurant management, until he found his true calling, helping those less fortunate. He worked for many years as an instructor in various Day Treatment Centers for Developmentally Disabled Adults, which years later actually brought him to Key West to take advantage of an opportunity to work at a Summer camp for the local M.A.R.C. House. After his 3rd camp he went home, got his belongings and has called Key West home ever since. Among his accomplishments since moving here, he won the title of Mr. Pride 2006, and is the current reigning King of Fantasy Fest 2012. All during this time he has been a tour conductor for Old Town Trolley, managed the Grand Guesthouse and is now in his element as the Assistant Activities Director for The Southernmost Hotel Collection. He Loves to make people happy and have fun doing it!
Michael McCabe has lived in Key West for 12 years and is a veteran of Royal Caribbean’s Cruise Director’s Staff. He has sailed on the two largest ships in the world, the Oasis and the Allure of the Seas entertaining guests and hosting events and game shows. He received his BA in Theatre and Music from Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland; spent four years serving in the United States Marine Corps in Somalia and Desert Storm; and has toured the US as a performer. His favorite games are Bingo and Beer Pong, and he is a believer that it is ALWAYS 5:00 somewhere!
I look forward to seeing all of you again real soon and I’m certain that you’ll have an even more pleasurable experience upon your next stay at The Southernmost Hotel Collection once you meet these two exceptional employees, Mark and Michael!

Ragnar Relay- from Miami to Key West in 2 days time!
Boomer’s Blog January 6th, 2013
Ragnar Relay Florida Keys Miami-Key West
Ragnar is the overnight running relay race that makes testing your limits a team sport. A team is made up of 6-12 individuals; each individual runs 3 legs. The legs of the race vary in difficulty and distance, allowing elite and novice runners to run together. Over 2 days and 1 night, teams run across 199 miles of the country’s most scenic terrain. Pair that with crazy costumes, inside jokes, a great finish line party and unforgettable stories. Some call it a slumber party without sleep, pillows or deodorant. We call it Ragnar.
Ragnar Relay Florida Keys is more than a 199 mile overnight relay. Make the experience a Run-cation, and plan your stay for next year’s race! Check out this link to see all of the exclusive offers at The Southernmost Hotel Collection to make your stay complete.
We here at The Southernmost Hotel Collection are proud of our HOME TEAM that participated in The Florida Keys Ragnar Relay 2013 and here is a photo and a list of the entire team:
The Home Team:
Donna, Barbara, Elisa, Elizabeth, Berenice, Bill, Jessica, Jenn, Aine, Courtney, Erica, Ed, Damali, Sam, Cindy, Adelheid, Jena
What are your New Years plans?
2013 is almost here! Winter has officially begun, so don’t hesitate to book your vacation with us during the cooler months up north. I am surprised how warm the Atlantic Ocean has been as of late just off our pier as I have been reading 80 degree water temps. I have also seen many manatees, bottle nosed dolphins, and many other beautiful marine animals. Many of our guests have been enjoying our Sunset Celebration Show with LIVE musicians performing every evening in front of spectacular Key West sunsets! We offer a different musician for this show each and every evening until the beginning of March so make sure you don’t miss out on the best seat on the island to view the sunsets! We have an awesome event for our guests on New Year’s Eve just around the corner for you to view a fabulous fireworks show at 10pm! For $65 a person you can enjoy endless appetizers and an open bar as well as the fireworks display all before heading downtown for other Key West festivities.
Are you planning on being in Key West for Valentine’s Day? Be sure to ask our Reservations Department about doing something especially romantic for the love of your life! Our guest relations department can make everything special for you.
The Southernmost Hotel Collection surely has everything you’re looking for while on vacation in Key West, so come see for yourself and come stay with us to get away from the “Winter-time Blues!”
Happy Holidays and fun come from the Fury Concierge Team.
I hope you are having a Happy Holiday Season and want to point out a great travel tip to anyone that will be staying with us at The Southernmost Hotel Collection in the future. If you are planning to book ANY watersport trip while in Key West, make sure that you make reservations with the Fury Concierge Team that is located in both of our hotel lobbies. They can help you with any reservation you wish to make from dinner to snorkeling, kayaking to seaplane rides. They are here to serve you and help answer any questions you may have about the what-to-do’s on the island. Also, when you make your reservations with the onsite Fury Concierge Team, they assure your complete fulfillment with everything you do that was suggested by them! The Fury Concierge Team works as a well oiled machine and leaves notes for other team members to make sure you are always taken care of, and their main focus is YOUR complete satisfaction and to have the most pleasant experience possible. The Fury Concierge Team Associates are the island’s MOST experienced and knowledgeable when it comes to all the fun watersport activities, sightseeing tours, attractions, bars, dining establishments and more! I can honestly say that I am proud to have The Fury Concierge Team working for you at The Southernmost Hotel Collection and I am sure once you meet them, you’ll feel the same way.
I would also like to introduce our newest member of The Southernmost Hotel Collection Management Team, Greg. Greg is the new Pool Services Manager! He has made many new friends with our guests staying with us and it’s quite obvious he is happy to be here and make sure that your vacation could be nothing less than perfect.
Also, my Assistant Activities Director, Ally, has been with us nearly one year and continues to do an excellent job at every event we have planned. She has been an incredible Beer & Wine School Professor and brought our Arts & Crafts School into our weekly Activities Schedule every Monday at 3pm.
Well we look forward to seeing you all here this season and Happy Happy Holidays from the Southernmost Hotel Collection!
hey boomer when are they going to post the pictures from the snorkeling photoshoot? allie keeps bugging me to find out.
They are just finishing up this week and then all the photos and video will be put together by the first of the year. Keep checking for a link.
Happy Happy Holidays are here!
The Holiday season is in full swing! I hope all of you had a Happy Thanksgiving. I was thankful that The Mango Men Nation returned for their 2012 Key West Tour and stayed with us at The Southernmost Hotel Collection. Without any doubt, it seems like each year Mango Tour becomes more spectacular and a special thanks to Lisa for making this annual event take place. It is definitely one I look forward to every year!
For those of you coming back during season, we have made a few changes. On our West Lawn at Southernmost on the Beach Hotel, we have a different musician playing for you each night during the Sunset Celebration Show which kicks off two hours before sunset and ends as the sun falls below the horizon. Immediately following our Sunset Celebration Show, move on over to our Shores Bar to listen to LIVE music Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for two hours. Wine School Wednesday will now take place on our West Lawn as will Beer School on Thursday. Movie Night on the Beach will be coming soon and take place at the private beach area in-between buildings A&B facing the Atlantic Ocean. Watch a movie under the stars in lounge chairs with drink service available and FREE popcorn! We will be showing many Holiday Themed movies throughout the remainder of this year but you can look forward to Frankie & Annette flicks and many other fun comedies! Also, next June we will feature movies from the 1940’s in honor of the 65th celebration of the Southernmost Hotel. The movies will begin as soon as it becomes dark enough and end early enough so that we don’t disturb our guests in rooms close by.
I would also like to remind our guests that in the cooler months the ocean can become an issue for those wishing to attend my Snorkel School! I strongly recommend that a 3.2mm wet-suit be worn and unfortunately our hotel does not provide rental wet-suits. We do provide mask, snorkel, fins, and snorkel vests that can be checked out free of charge when snorkeling just off our pier. When snorkeling we will use a safety dive flag which is mandatory to ALL guests that use our snorkel equipment in Key West Marine Park!!!
Again, I want to wish everyone Happy Holidays and look forward to seeing you real soon. If you need a last minute stocking stuffer, don’t forget – the Southernmost Hotel Collection has gift cards available for purchase by calling 1.800.354.4455.
I promise to post more blogs in 2013 and will update you of any breaking news here in Key West!
The morning after Fantasy Fest!
The Morning After Fantasy Fest Parade
I want to say thank you to ALL of our guests who attended Fantasy Fest 2012 as well as to those who made our Costume Party Contest the best EVER!!! It’s ALWAYS great to see returning guests for Key West’s favorite annual event to party like ROCK STARS and have an awesome time. Hurricane Sandy had no impact on our weather and in my opinion, it was absolutely beautiful all week with cool breezes that kept temps in the low to mid 80’s during the day. This year’s Fantasy Fest theme steered more to the end of the world Mayan prediction and the costumes were amazing. Allie and I hosted the party on Friday and I was a Mayan Warrior while Allie was a beautiful Mayan Princess. The guests and employees also showed their creativity with many great costumes this year.
The Masquerade March ended at the Shores Pool to wrap up what was an incredibly fun party here at The Southernmost Hotel Collection. A special thanks to Southernmost Beach Café for providing bar-b-que food for those in attendance. I would also like to give special thanks to a spectacular team of mix-ologists who truly did an excellent job of keeping the guests hydrated during the party. James, Megan, Ronnie, Mark, and I can’t forget the beautiful Princess Heather.
Here’s to next year! We hope you will be here to celebrate, and remember, book now for Fantasy Fest 2013!
Goombay and Zombie Bike Ride kick off Fantasy Fest week 2012!
For those of you who had made it down for Goombay Festival to kick off Fantasy Fest, I hope you had as much fun as I did! I actually live in Bahama Village where Goombay takes place and it was only footsteps from my apartment. Petronia Street was closed off for many food and beverage vendors to set up shop as were many novelty type vendors. I took my furry companion, “The Mighty Dakota”, who loved patrolling Petronia for anyone who had dropped any of their “meat on a stick” onto the ground! Our very own steel drummer extraordinaire, Toko Irie, was seen playing at Goombay as were many other talented Key West local musicians.
Key West along with creators Marky Pierson and Evan Haskell hosted The Zombie Bike Ride on Sunday evening as many locals became day of the dead and zombie look-alikes on wheels to tour the island in costume!
Tonight we are hosting the Headdress Ball at Southernmost on The Beach at 7pm. Also, this Friday will be our Fantasy Fest Costume Contest at our Shores Pool which will be hosted by Allie and me! Come over and join the fun! We will have many prizes awarded to the best costumes. And, afterwards, join the masquerade march as it comes through our Shores Bar on their last stop before hitting downtown. I will post many photos of the events at our hotels along with all the other fun filled activities taking place at Fantasy Fest 2012.
Hope to see you all at The Southernmost Hotel Collection real soon! Be sure to contact our Reservations Department to book your stay with us!
